Stevia provides an excellent alternative to sugar and other sweeteners. Stevia has no calories, zero carbs, zero glycemic index (may actually help lower blood sugar levels) and no side effects. 

The super sweet plant was discovered in South America hundreds of years ago by the native Guarani people of Paraguay and Brazil. Originally, the natives used the leaves for their medicinal benefit and to sweeten the strong taste of herbal maté tea. Indigenous Brazilians and Paraguayans believed used stevia to treat wound infections, inflammatory conditions, swelling of the legs, and as a tonic against depression.
